Why I decided to start using Natural Products

Posted on 27 July 2012

When I started my research into getting healthier internally, (and getting rid of my toxic load due to my Crohnís Disease), it was only natural that I began to think about how to get healthier externally. I started thinking about all of the chemicals I was putting on my body every day, and I knew I needed to do something about it because it was only increasing my toxic load that I was trying to get rid of! So what did I do?...I started at the most basic and easiest step I could think of – I changed my soap and moisturiser (The 2 things I use every day!). It was SO EASY! Hereís what I did:

SOAP

I discovered Dr Bronnerís Organic Natural Soaps and fell in LOVE with them! They are the #1 Selling Natural Brand of Soaps in North America and Japan. I know there are A LOT of different ĎOrganicí or ĎNaturalí soaps on the market but hereís why I LOVE and USE Dr Bronnerís soaps:

  • They are Natural and Certified Organic – using ingredients such as Organic Coconut Oil, hemp oil and jojoba oil to name a few.
  • They are SO AFFORDABLE! – it truly makes you wonder how much $$$ other Companies are making when Dr Bronnerís can produce such AMAZING QUALITY NATURAL PRODUCTS at Prices that the average working class person can afford! I thought I was going to have to break the bank when I decided to go organic and natural but I was wrong! (Check out our Online Store for Prices).
  • They stand for Fair Trade
  • They have Environmentally friendly packaging
  • BUT MOST OF ALL they are REALLY trying to make a difference to EVERYONE ON THIS EARTH! (Check out their website to read more about this www.drbronner.com)

Dr Bronnerís Soaps come in many different flavours and I have chosen my top 4 favourites to bring to you in our Online Shop! Baby Mild Unscented, Peppermint, Tea Tree and Lavender. The soaps come in LIQUID and BAR SOAPS. And guess what? They are MULTIPURPOSE because you can use them to wash your face, your whole body, use as a shampoo, use to shave, dilute down and use as a hand soap, also wash your pets (the soap will kill fleas and ticks), I use them to wash my makeup brushes, clean my house and to top it off I even use the peppermint liquid soap to brush my teeth!

Note: My sister LOVES using the Baby Mild Unscented on herself and also to bath her 2 young boys (one son is 2 Ĺ and the other is only 2months old!) She uses the 3.78 L bottle because the soaps become cheaper when you buy the bigger bulk size! (Check out our store to compare the prices in sizes).

As I mentioned above, as well as using Dr Bronnerís Organic Soaps to wash with, I also use them to clean my house! Hereís a step by step Guide on how to make an all purpose cleaning spray using Dr Bronnerís Tea Tree Liquid Soap to clean your house:

1.Fill an empty 1 Litre spray bottle with water (about ĺ full).

2.Put ľ cup of Dr Bronnerís Tea Tree Liquid Soap in the bottle with the water (the Tea Tree soap has antibacterial capabilities but you can use any of the Dr Bronnerís flavours).

3.Put 10-20 drops of Pure Tea Tree Oil in the bottle (I use Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil).

4.Fill up the bottle with more water (if needed) and put the lid back on and turn upside down so all the ingredients mix together.

5.When you spray onto your cleaning surface wipe off with a damp cloth. You might notice a film on really shiny surfaces and that is just hard water residue.

So have fun cleaning your house away with a non toxic, antibacterial & affordable cleaner! =)

Note: If you need to remove scum, spray area with your made up multipurpose concoction described above, and then sprinkle baking soda on the area liberally. Then scrub area and rinse off with very hot water. Dry area afterwards.

Hereís what I use this spray for to clean my house: bench tops, basin, sink, bath tub, floors, shower and mirrors. (Iím sure there are probably many more things you could try using the spray for as well).

Ok Moving onto Moisturiser...

MOISTERISER

At the moment I am rotating between using Natural and Organic products such asExtra Virgin Coconut Oil and Dr Bronnerís Lavender Coconut Hand & Body Lotion and Dr Bronnerís Peppermint Hand & Body Lotion. Depending on my mood and where Iím going I will switch it up! Dr Bronnerís Lavender Coconut Lotionis very relaxing and soothing and smells divine! Dr Bronnerís Peppermint Lotionis very refreshing and leaves your body with a nice peppermint fresh smell without feeling sticky! When I use Extra Virgin Coconut Oil I make sure not to put too much on or it will be too oily and will take a long time to soak in. I love to use straight virgin coconut oil as a moisturiser if Iím going out in the sun as it acts like a natural sunscreen. (No more chemical sunscreens for me anymore).

Dr Bronnerís Lotions are certified organic and are not tested on animals. Note: Guys, you should really try the Peppermint Lotion. The packaging and smell is not Ďgirlyí at all and we all know that guys need to moisturise too! Girls, maybe invest in this for your man if he is too STUBBORN to buy some! lol

Anyways, I must say that I have really noticed the difference in my skin since using the coconut oil and Dr Bronnerís soaps and lotions. My skin looks like itís getting colour back into it and itís nice and soft and hydrated all the time! hehe =)

On another note, I also found Dr Bronnerís Hair Conditioning Creme while I was researching into different organic soaps. I like to use them after Iíve towel dried my hair. They leave my hair feeling moisturised and also help my frizzy fly away hairs. They are great to use before blow drying to help style the hair, and you only need to use a tiny bit, so one bottle lasts a long time! They are available in Lavender Coconut and Peppermint Flavours. (Dr Bronnerís Lotions and Hair Cremeís are also available in our Online Shop).

Lastly, I have only recently discovered the Noni and Fiji Coconut Soap and Organic Fiji Fragrance Free Soap. The Noni and Fiji Coconut Soap makes me feel like Iím on a tropical holiday in Fiji as it has a really nice scent with exfoliating pieces in the soap. And the Organic Fiji Fragrance Free soap is 100% Coconut Oil soap which means you can use it on your face and body and leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturised.

So I guess to sum up it really wasnít hard for me to change over to natural and organic soaps and moisturisers, because they are so affordable and easily accessible. Have you ever taken notice to the ingredients listed on your soap or moisturiser bottle? Do it now and then compare them to the ingredients listed from the products on our site. =)

Iím so happy that I no longer put anymore unnecessary chemicals on my body, and I know it will pay off in the long run =)

Hopefully after reading this post you will make the change too! =)
