Cured of Crohn's Disease for 5 years!
Posted on 03 April 2017So it's 2017 and I have been cured of Crohn's Disease for 5 years! WOOHOO!!! I have not had a single relapse, sign or symptom from Crohn's Disease WHATSOEVER! However, it's amazing still to this day that some people who know me still don't believe it or can't comprehend that I've cured it. On the other hand, I also have some people in my life that continue to support me and are proud of what I have achieved. So I keep my head held high and I am grateful and thankful to the family and friends who have been there for me and acquaintances who have taken the time to understand and learn about me and what I have gone through. THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me!
Over the years people have been emailing me for help and advice with their illness and I always took the time to write back to help as much as I could. I genuinely like to try and help people, especially since I have personally gone through a very difficult illness myself. However, it was always quite disheartening when I would spend a lot of my free time replying back to emails trying to help others and then 98% of them didn't even take the time to reply to my lengthy emails with a simple 'thank you'. Is that too much to expect?? Has common courtesy gone out the window?...
Since I last posted (I know it's been a while-yikes!), I no longer have to follow a strict GAPS protocol since I am 100% healed. I followed the GAPS diet VERY strictly for 18months from 2010 and then followed it approximately 80% for an extra year. I continue to include Coconut in my diet (especially coconut oil). I continue to make most of our food homemade from scratch, however, we can eat out at restaurants and have take-away meals and even junk food every once and a while now (Yep, I'm gonna keep this real!). My health is AMAZING now and looking back I am so happy that I pushed myself to prioritise my health and that I was disciplined enough to follow the GAPS diet and heal my digestive tract when I did.
A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to continue educating myself about Food, Health and the body and so I enrolled as a student to study a Bachelor of Health Science Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine Degree. I have been studying part time and I am loving it!
Recently Dominic and I decided to start a family and I delivered a perfectly healthy Baby Boy (Naturally without any drugs whatsoever! OMG!!! Yes, this was the hardest thing I have EVER done in my life!) Happy it's all over and I'm enjoying being a mummy!
