Hidden Dangers in Personal Care Products

Posted on 03 July 2017
If you've been following my healthy journey I have been using Natural Products for the past 7 years. Why? Because when I was researching how to cure my Crohn's Disease I came across some pretty scary information about what toxic chemicals I had been using without realizing the damage it was doing to my health.

Did you know that our skin is our largest organ? And whatever we put onto our skin gets absorbed into our bloodstream and affects our health? When I first learned this it was mind blowing! It made complete sense, but it was something I had never even bothered thinking about before. I used to choose my personal care products based on the pretty packaging, the fancy marketing of what the products 'said it could do for me' or their 'nice' smell. Oh how far I've come!.....

What I've learned now is that all of the personal care products I was using was contributing to my illness and I needed to STOP using them ASAP! Have you ever looked at the ingredients list of your personal care products and wondered what all of those BIG words were and what they actually mean? These synthetic ingredients in most brands of personal care products contain chemicals which are skin irritants, endocrine disrupters and are carcinogenic – all of which can be doing your HEALTH and SKIN a lot of harm. What does endocrine disrupters mean? It means chemicals that may interfere with the body's endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune effects! What the? I know! What does carcinogenic mean? It means having the potential to cause cancer! ......WOW!

So, what did I do? I threw away all of my toxic personal care products in the bin and was on the hunt for safer alternatives. The amount of money I spent on the products didn't even compare to the damage it was doing to my health so I said Good bye and cleared them out of my bathroom. Boy, did it feel good to know I took a step in the right direction.
It took me a while to find products which were safe, that I was happy with and which weren't going to break the bank. Over the years I have tried A LOT of different Natural product brands and I have FINALLY found a Company that I can buy ALL of my personal care products with AND my Natural Househould cleaning which makes life A LOT more easier, safer and Healthier for me, my body and my family. The best part is, I'm saving money AND earning money at the same time. I'll tell you the brand I've found in just a second. But first I want you to check out Dr Mercola's infographic he made on the 'Hidden Dangers in Personal Care Products'.

Hopefully this information will make you take a look at your products and think about swapping over to products which don't have chemicals in them that could give you cancer amongst a host of other health problems.

So what products do I use? I have spent years trialling different Natural Product brands and seeing what works best for me, my budget and my health. I LOVED using Dr Bronner's personal Care range. They were my saviour when I was healing my Crohn's Disease. Their products helped me have peace of mind that I was on the path to healing instead of contributing to a toxic load.

However, recently I have found another Brand, Young Living. This company not only has Safe, Natural Personal Care products, but they also have a whole range of other safe and healthy products I buy which I absolutely LOVE as they include therapeutic-grade essential oils in all of their products. I use their supplements, Natural Home Cleaning Range (the have the most amazing hand foaming soap I've ever tried-it keeps my hands moisterised all day long!) I also drink a shot of their NingXia Red Antioxidant drink every morning which supports my immune system and gives me energy throughout the day. The best thing about this brand is that it's more cost effective for me to buy all of my natural, safe and healthy products from the one place. I have a wholesale membership account, which gives me a 24% discount. I'm also a member of their Essential Rewards loyalty program which enables me to save even more money as I earn points every time I shop with them, which I can use to claim FREE products – AWESOME! Soon (approx. October 2017) they will be launching a Natural Makeup range aswell, so I'm excited to try that too. From this company I've also learned about essential oils and I use them for a safe and natural perfume, I also make a lot of different things with them using only 2 ingredients (Coconut oil and Essential oils). I've made a natural chest rub, teething cream for my 10 month old baby, an immune boosting support cream, face cream and body cream. I've also made a natural toilet spray, air freshener, natural bug repellent. I made all of these using only 2 ingredients (Essential oils and Water).

So it's safe to say that I've found products without all the nasty, unsafe chemicals. I have peace of mind knowing that what I put on my body is contributing to my Health in a POSITIVE way instead of having those carcinogenic and endocrine disrupting chemicals entering my body, and I'm saving money by using them. I absolutely LOVE Young Living's range of products and they have been the missing link to my families health and wellness.
